Why I became a UX designer!
My path to becoming a UX designer was not at all straight forward. I didn't go to any art school and honestly, I never really got an opportunity to work as a designer till my last job. It was when I joined my latest company 6 years back, I got an opportunity to work on various mobile and web app designs!
In college, I actually studied English Literature, and then I did my MBA in marketing and started my career as a content coordinator.
Now, everything was moving to digital and I really wanted to know and learn how it works. In my first job, I got this fabulous opportunity to design various WAP portals for international mobile operators like Telenor, Tigo, Vodafone etc. And that is when I got a knack for design.
But then I changed the job and went to a very traditional profile of Marketing and my passion and liking for design took a back seat until I joined my current company in 2013.
Soon I realized my skills in designing and decided to do something more with my talents and love for design! And from here began my informal journey to become a UX designer. Though my profile and department had been Marketing I got fantastic opportunities to learn, create, design many mobile and web apps.
I learned tools like Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, illustrator, premiere, after effects, sketch, Adobe XD, Figma, Axure etc on my own and soon, started creating professional UX/UI designs. I also learned video making and eventually became proficient in the same.
And I did not stop there! I learned to create professional branding materials like brochures, presentations, flyers, posters, newspaper ads, magazines, hoardings etc.
I will share my journey on this blog — how and what all I did to learn UX design. Hope you will enjoy the same!
So, the first update from me is I have recently enrolled in HFI CUA program, and my batch is starting next week. I will keep on posting about my learnings here.
Ciao!
